As a traveler

Traveling, in my opinion, is one of the most basic of human activities in modern societies, and one that I especially encourage for everyone.

During my life, I have travelled as much as time would allow me, and my only regret is that my parents did not start me up for seeing the world when I was younger.

Wishing that we would not make the same mistake with our daughter, my wife and I decided to include her in all our travels and all our world seeing activities.

No-travel list

I will not travel to any zone of war or active conflict in any capacity. Unless being drafted in active military duty, or my home country is attacked, I will do my best to avoid conflict zones.

I will not travel to any location that does not allow my family to enjoy the trip in the same way as myself. As an example, since I have a wife and a daughter, I will not visit a place that bars women from entering, such as Mount Athos.

I will also not travel to any location which does not treat my family the same, from a legal standpoint, to myself, such as places that legally discriminate against women. I do consider that respect of religious and customary practices is a valid requirement that isn't necessarily discriminatory (and, as such, take no issue with rules covering the head or other body parts while on premises, regardless of whether or not those are equally weighed on family members), but will stop at anything that does not grant the same rights between people.

These are specific destinations that I refuse to travel to, and the reasons why for each:

• Russia and Belarus, because of the state aggression
• Iran, Syria and Afghanistan because of discrimination against women
• North Korea, because of its dictatorial, restrictive, repressive and aggressive policies
